halloween tinker bell!

My daughter decided she wanted to be tinkerbell for our halloween party this year so I went in search of making her costume. I didnt want just a tutu and saw a really cute tutu dress on ETSY then spent the next 3 days searching the internet for a tutu dress tutorial... no luck, its like its a screat or something so I just winged it and was impressed how fast and easy it came out! These pictures show it before I cut it up to her knees cause she said it was to long to tink.

It was so fast and so easy that I ran back to the fabric store and bought tons more tulle and now have a whole princess collection, which I will post a tutorial to later. In the mean time I think I will try my hand at the etsy world because my friends are all gushing over the dresses..... if only they knew how easy it was ;) hope you have a safe and happy halloween I will post the costumes Im making for my boys soon... only so much time lol... oh and for my next trick im trying out Oreo cookie suckers... wish me luck!

halloween party prep!

So I have been so busy planning our yearly halloween party I think there might actually be a layer of dust on my sewing machine. But I just thought I would show off some of my fun ideas for this years bash

Here is what my TV room ceiling looks like. Its all done out of streamers and took about an hour to hang, but it looks freaking awesome (my son thinks he wants a spider man party now)

And I then had to do it for the dinning room but ran out of black streamer (has did all the local stores, who knew)

I made a super awesome coffin which im going to fill with prizes and spaghetti noodles (kinda like a pinyata cause only one kid got to hit it last year, this way every one gets a fair turn) It was really easy Quick coffin tutorial: I got a $8 piece of insulation foam board 8x4 at home depote, made a coffin shape and cut it out, then I used a screw driver to make the board line and a brown crayon to make the wood grain then water brushed over with brown paint and there we go, a wonderfull sppoky coffin. Im going to cut hole in the sides for the kids to stick their hands in.

A local flower shop has kid project days and the three older ones made these for the front porch

my update project pictures

I had a fast free moment this morning thanks to a wonderful Cousin (my BFF) who recently obtained a copy of a not yet out movie about a space man and a cowboy... so I was able to snag some much needed pictures to brag about! So here are my taggie dinos, mind you it was my first set (2 more since this) so the trex does resemble a mirr cat lol

The fabric was awesome and I scored 6 fat quarters for $3 in that pebble look and im guessing I can make about 5 sets with them! the minky on the back is really plushy and I stuffed them with stuffing that came out of a over sized Tigger that showed up after christmas with a huge hole.

Now this was a dress shirt jumper that I saw over at Made By Lex (sorry I still dont know how to link them) My only sad part is I ruffled great but pinned wrong so my button side was side way (notice picture) so I just made it the back. I also used a womans size small shirt, bad idea good thing my little lady is tiny. she loves it.

My only issue other then my side way button up lol is that I guess I dont know why my seams shoe after it was washed (note next picture)

and I mad this car mat quick for the boys, I have seen them a million times are here so im not sure who to give the props to on the one. I did use a place mat on the back to make it a little thicker and it was on $1 at joanns on clearance so go me for up cycling

Tired!

We have been so busy with back to school and fall sports starting! Brother bear will be in first grade this year and we start at a new charter school, so we are thrilled he will actually be learning things. But as a perk and down fall he will be at school from 730 till 5. And little lou starts preschool 3 days a week and speach one day, so we will be busy driving around. Brother Bear also started fall soccer, he is still really bad at it but at least he is having fun, it will be a test to see if he can keep it up and maybe do a winter club. Little Lou and booboo bear want to get in a tumbling class so im trying to find something that will accomindate a 3 and 2 year old. And baby bear is now 10 weeks old and so far is holding his own in the rush nicely. All that on top of a few extra day care kids these last two weeks has kept me away from sewing (however I did bang out two car mats and will post pictures soon) I also got a newish desk. Its huge compared to what im currently working on, the lovely husband brought it home from work, he loves me lol Keep your eyes out for pictures comming soon though, you know, when I have time to sit for more then a minute! Time to put back on my super mom cape and get back to work! Have fun crafting today!

Dinos!

So this week I have been working on some really cute 'taggie' type dinos! My sons have been really into dinosaurs for the last few years and since daycare baby wont put the 'taggie' ribbon blanket I made him down, I decided that maybe I could make him something funner then a blanket to chew on, not to mention my newest little man is starting to put things in his mouth. So I (even though I looked on Etsy after I made them and realized I was not as cleaver as I thought) grabbed my note book and made a few sketches and wow! Totally cute! Pictures to come! I think if I ever get good enough to be one of those crafty Etsy people, I would make neat ribbon animals cause my kids can not get enough of these, even the bigger kids have not put them down! (BTW check out the dollar bins at target they have awesome ribbon!)

oh where oh where have I been ;)

Well family vacation came and went with me forgetting to get on here and let you know all the fun things I have been trying! Jo-Ann's had a .99 cent fat quarter sale a while back and I went a bit crazy lol but it seemed a great way to just teach my self to sew relatively cheaply, and not to tute my own horn but I made my little lady a really cute over all jumper out of 4 fat quarters and an old pair of overalls my kids have our grown. So lets see if I can make my first tutorial!
There she is in her new jumper thing... cute as a button! (ignore her socks lol)First I picked out 4 matching fat quarters because I figured I could make a twirly 8 panel skirt from the four. As it turns out I have enough fabric to make 2 8 panel skirts so we will see where that leads me later ;)

I measured her waist to an inch below her knee (because i like her dresses long) then I gave my self a 2inch seem allowance because I'm new at this, so it came out to 9in. I measured her waist, added 4 more inches for the bunching look 1 for the seam and divided by 8. the I tapered the bottom 2 inches and cut.

I sewed the panels together one at a time front side facing. (side note I just learned how to do a french hem and wished I would have on this skirt)
I sewed two 4 panels and then sewed them together and ironed. For some reason I don't have a picture of me double folding the top and bottom to hem them but I decided I wanted lace on the bottom and this is how it looks:

While looking for my elastic as I was just going to make it a elastic waist skirt at first I found this pair of overalls sitting on my desk and I decided that I wanted to make it a dress/jumper thing

So I grabbed the scissors and cut....
My scissors were not happy about it and I should have left more of a waist to work with because i broke needles trying to sew them together and had a breakdown and an extra Starbucks to make up for it.

My sewing machine was not made for this lol but all in all I think it turned out really cute and she loves it! and I had some lady in the grocery store ask me where I got it... so that kinda boosted my confidence a little about the whole situation, so if you want to make one and never have let me know how it went for you, or if you have questions about it let me know too cause I realize its not as technical as other tutorials.
